The Royal Oak is a sports model that includes the Royal Oak Offshore, Royal Oak Offshore Diver and Royal Oak Chronograph amongst others, all manufactured in a variety of innovative materials and precious metals.

Royal Oak: Iconic design by Genta

The Royal Oak has a unique ‘porthole’ design, with exposed screws holding down the octagonal bezel – inspired by vintage diving helmets. AP can thank legendary Swiss watch designer Gérald Genta for creating this iconic feature. This model is also notable as it is considered the first luxury steel sports watch, when it was released in 1972. – defined by a sleek appearance, waterproof case and automatic movement.  Genta also designed Patek Philippe’s equally iconic Nautilus, Cartier’s Pasha de Cartier and a host of other pieces for brands such as Universal Genève and OMEGA. Royal Oak Offshore

The Royal Oak Offshore, released in 1993, is a sportier version of the original, and is a chronograph with water resistance to 100 m. The exception to this is the Offshore Diver which is not a ‘chrono’, and can go down to 300m. The Royal Oak is often spoken of in the same breath as the equally iconic Patek Philippe Nautilus ref. 5711 – another Genta-designed classic.
